Mo-ped driver hurt in crash in Kaneohe
A 19-year-old Kailua man was critically injured Tuesday when he was thrown from his mo-ped that ran a red light and hit a car, police said.
The crash happened at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday at Kaneohe Bay Drive and Mokulele Drive.
Police said the mo-ped driver may have been speeding while traveling west on the right shoulder of Kaneohe Bay Drive. The mo-ped hit a Lexus that was turning left to the Bay View Golf Course from Kaneohe Bay Drive.
The Lexus, driven by a 61-year-old man, had a green left turn light, police said.
The mo-ped driver suffered severe leg injuries and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center, police said.
1 arrested, roads shut in wake of gunshots
Honolulu Police arrested one man and shut down key sections of Pearl City roads after shots were fired from a Waimano Home Road address Wednesday night.
The man arrested on suspicion of reckless endangering is 49 and a resident of one of the houses at 1858 Waimano Home Road, said police Lt. Carl Kalani of the Pearl City police substation.
Arriving police, who heard shots as they approached, managed to talk the man out of the house, Kalani said.
Two other men in the house were questioned but not arrested.
As they cleared the house and searched the neighborhood, officers shut down Komo Mai Drive, the only road into the Pacific Palisades subdivision, for more than two hours. Also closed was Waimano Home Road at Hoolaulea Road.
Komo Mai was reopened about 9:30 p.m. but Waimano Home was still closed at Hoolaulea as of 9:45 p.m.
School employee hits teenager with truck
A school employee was unaware that he struck a 15-year-old girl with a pickup truck as he drove from a parking stall at Kailua Intermediate School Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The employee, 40, did not see the girl who was sitting on the ground next to the truck, police said.
The girl was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition with abrasions on her face and abdominal pain, but was later upgraded to good and stable condition, authorities said. Police did not cite or arrest the driver.
The case was forwarded to the police Vehicular Homicide Section, which will review the case based on injuries and other circumstances.
