We walk, not talk about being green
Plastic bag bans, electric cars, recycling bins were only the start. Now it’s official: Honolulu is among the most environmentally conscious cities.
That’s the assessment of Maxpoint Interactive, anyway. The company, which specializes in targeting advertising to the neighborhoods most receptive to them, put Honolulu at the No. 3 spot on its list.
The two that scored higher on the "green" scale were Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas. But D.C. folks are what Maxpoint called "talkers." They were the ones who like reading about and discussing environmental issues, "talking the talk."
Honolulu and Austin residents were more the "walkers," said company spokesperson Jessica Cascio: "Their purchase behavior indicates they ‘walk the walk,’" she said.
The top scoring neighborhoods here? Wailupe, Pacific Heights and Kapiolani (however they define that latter community). Anyway, "walkers": Prepare for an advertising onslaught.
Pro Bowl is fun, no matter what
Suspend or eliminate the NFL’s Pro Bowl game?
Are you kidding?
The league’s annual all-star football game is fun to watch because of the celebrity players, and the players love taking part in it, too — especially when it’s in Hawaii.
According to news reports, the NFL admits the issue is not about finances: The last Pro Bowl, held here in Hawaii Jan. 29, was the most-watched sporting event of that weekend.
Apparently top NFL officials just think the event is embarrassing, since the players have no interest in getting hurt in a mere all-star game.
But so what? It’s still fun. So keep the Pro Bowl and keep it in Hawaii.
