Oda wins individual title, helps Moanalua win state golf crown

Led by medalist John Oda Wednesday, Moanalua became the first Oahu Interscholastic Association school in 32 years to win the David S. Ishii Foundation/HHSAA Boys Golf Championship.

Na Menehune trailed ‘Iolani by four after shooting 4-over par 291 in Tuesday’s first round. Moanalua closed with a 295 to win by eight shots over the Raiders. Two-time defending champion Punahou took third, 10 strokes back.

Oda, a sophomore, fired a 71 to win the individual title with a score of 5-under 139. Seabury Hall’s Alex Chiarella (68) was three shots back and defending champion Lorens Chan (72) of ‘Iolani finished four back.
