Motorcyclist killed in crash is identified
A 46-year-old motorcyclist killed in a crash Thursday night in Waiahole has been identified as Charles J. Ryan of Kaaawa, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday.
Ryan died of multiple blunt-force injuries from the crash, the office said.
Police said speeding and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, which happened at about 10:50 p.m. on Kamehameha Highway near Kaimalolo Place.
Police said Ryan was traveling north when he crossed the center line and hit an oncoming pickup truck driven by a 54-year-old Honolulu man. Ryan continued north and hit another vehicle, driven by a 21-year-old Honolulu woman, and was thrown from his motorcycle.
He was not wearing a helmet.
Police closed Kamehameha Highway in both directions between Pulama and Waiahole Valley roads while police investigated.
Man arrested in $100,000 jewelry theft
A 28-year-old man was arrested Thursday after he took a bag containing $100,000 in jewelry that was accidentally left behind in an elevator in Waikiki, police said.
Police said a 76-year-old woman was moving bags from an elevator when the elevator doors closed with the woman’s bag of jewelry still inside at about 9:50 a.m. Tuesday.
The woman went to another floor to intercept the elevator, but it had already moved on. By the time she got back into the elevator, her bag was missing.
Police said a surveillance camera captured the man taking the woman’s bag from the elevator and leaving.
Officers arrested the man today for investigation of first-degree theft after he was spotted in the same area.
Police said the bag and jewelry had not been recovered.
Suspect, 64, is charged in Kalihi stabbing
A 64-year-old man who turned himself in to police was charged Friday for allegedly stabbing a man last month in Kalihi.
Louis Andrew Bradley was charged with second-degree attempted murder and was being held at the main police station in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Bradley, who did not give authorities an address, was identified as the stabber in a 3 a.m. April 22 attack by the victim and a witness.
Police said Bradley approached a 34-year-old man sitting near a bus stop near Mayor Wright Homes and hit him over the head with a wooden board. The victim fought back, but Bradley pulled out a knife and stabbed the younger man in the chest before fleeing, police said.
The victim collapsed with serious injuries.
Bradley turned himself in at the main police station at 2:10 a.m. Thursday.
