BYUH women’s tennis in D-II finals
The top-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team defeated Abilene Christian 5-0 on Friday to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship match today in Louisville, Ky.
The Seasiders will face Armstrong Atlantic (Ga.), which defeated Barry (Fla.) 5-2 in Friday’s other semifinal.
For BYUH (29-0), it was its third consecutive 5-0 win in the tournament.
Yuan Jia and Marietta Tuionetoa, the fifth-ranked doubles team in Division II, posted a pair of victories each in the win over Abilene Christian. The duo took second doubles 8-1 before Jia captured third singles 6-3, 6-3 and Tuionetoa swept sixth singles 6-3, 6-1.
The Seasiders were leading three of the four unfinished singles matches before play was halted when BYUH clinched the best-of-nine team victory.
I-Hsuan Annie Hwang and Shoazhuo Sherry Liu, the top-ranked doubles team in the nation, rolled to an 8-0 win at first doubles, while Marika Kobayashi and Tanja Rebholz claimed an 8-6 victory at third doubles.
Crusader youth football clinic today
The two-day Crusader Advantage Youth Clinic will begin today at Saint Louis School.
Youths in grades 4 through 8 will be trained in football fundamentals, flexibility, speed and quickness. They will also participate in 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 drills.
Guest speakers will be former Hawaii quarterback Tim Chang and former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Chris Fuamatu-Ma‘afala. Both are Saint Louis graduates.

Furuichi leads Jennie K. tournament
Hana Furuichi shot a 1-over 73 to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the 62nd annual Jennie K. Wilson Invitational at Mid-Pacific Country Club on Friday.
Malia Nam (74) trails by one, with Brittany Fan (75) another shot back.
Nicole Sakamoto and Rose Huang shot 4-over 76.
The second round will be played today with the final round on Sunday.
HPU baseball players earn region honors
Two Hawaii Pacific players, including senior outfielder Blake Amaral from Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii, received honors on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-West Region Team.
Amaral, who batted .358 in 49 starts this season, was named honorable mention. The other HPU player was junior pitcher Michael Murray, who was named to the second team.
