High surf advisory issued for east-facing shores of all islands

A high surf advisory was issued for the eastern shores of Oahu and other islands through 6 p.m. Tuesday by the National Weather Service this afternoon.

The east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii Island, which were placed under the advisory about 4 p.m., could see surf rise to six to eight feet.

Strong tradewinds are bringing rough surf to those shores, the National Weather Service and city Department of Emergency Management reported. The high surf could produce strong rip currents and localized beach erosion, the city said.
