Tuesday farmers market will start at KCC
A farmers market at Kapiolani Community College on Tuesday nights will launch this week on a three-month trial basis.
The KCC Saturday Farmers Market will continue to operate 7:30 to 11 a.m.
KCC and the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation will run the Tuesday night market beginning this week, and it will be held weekly from 4 to 7 p.m. on the KCC campus grounds.
Man drowns off Lanai’s Hulopoe Beach
A 45-year-old man died Saturday afternoon after being pulled from waters fronting Hulopoe Beach on Lanai’s southern coast.
Bystanders retrieved the unresponsive victim from the ocean shortly after 4 p.m. and, along with police on the scene, performed CPR on the man until paramedics arrived.
The man was transported to Lanai General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Hilo residents warned of rise in burglaries
Hawaii County police are advising residents in the Waiakea Houselots area of Hilo that their neighborhood has experienced an increase in burglaries since May. Burglars have entered homes through windows to steal jewelry and other items.
Police advise residents to lock all doors and windows when they leave home.
Police plan to send prerecorded phone notifications to area residents using the county Civil Defense Agency’s automated telephone notification system to warn them about the burglaries.
Anyone with information about these burglaries is asked to call Detective James Correa at 961-2289.
