Hawaii County police investigate calf butchering in Honokaa

Hawaii island police opened an investigation into the alleged butchering of a calf last weekend by an intruder at a Honokaa paddock.

Police said it appears someone entered a livestock paddock in the Kapulena area sometime Saturday or Sunday and butchered a calf valued at more than $400.

The case has been classified as theft of livestock.

The property had been set aside by the county for lease to farmers and ranchers.
