Honolulu police closed Pali Highway in both directions overnight while they investigated a fatal motorcycle crash.

An Ewa Beach man lost control of his motorcycle, hit the center median of the Pali Highway and collided with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction Monday night, Honolulu police said.

The 28-year-old motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed the Pali Highway in both directions, at the Pali tunnel and Kamehameha Highway, while they investigated the 11:05 p.m. crash.

The motorcyclist, in the Honolulu-bound lanes, ended up with his motorcycle in the Kaneohe-bound lanes and was struck by a vehicle driven by a Kaneohe woman. She was not injured.

Police believe the motorcycle driver was speeding. It’s not known if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

Police reopened the Pali Highway at about 3 a.m.

Meanwhile, an Emergency Medical Services supervisor said paramedics were busy Monday night responding to other traffic accidents.

The supervisor said a 29-year-old motorcyclist went to the hospital in serious condition after a 10:17 p.m. accident on Kupuna Loop near Kunia Road in Village Park. Another traffic accident at about 10:30 p.m. sent a 21-year-old man to the hospital with serious injuries at Lehiwa Drive and Meheula Parkway in Mililani and paramedics also took a 35-year-old man to a trauma center in serious condition after an moped crash at tabout 11 p.m. on Mokuola Street near Kahuailani Street in Waipahu.
