Firefighters rescue man and 3 teens drifting in kayak off Lahaina
Maui firefighters rescued a man and three teens Tuesday after strong winds pushed them offshore in Lahaina.
A Maui Fire Department spokesman said a man fishing with his son on a kayak and the man’s other son who was spearfishing with a friend on a longboard began waving for help after strong winds pushed them offshore.
A person on shore called firefighters about 4 p.m. to report two people on a yellow kayak in distress in the water off the Royal Lahiana Resort.
Firefighters on a personal watercraft found four males drifting on a two-man kayak and a longboard about a quarter-mile from shore.
The firefighter on the personal watercraft brought the four people, the kayak and the longboard back to the beach. No one was hurt.
