The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Peejay Facun of Jacksonville. He was a member of the Coast Guard assigned to the Honolulu-based cutter Rush, the Coast Guard said.
Facun was driving a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle east on Sand Island Parkway when he lost control and crashed at about 3:40 p.m., according to a police report. He struck a street sign and a streetlight post just east of Training Access Road.
Facun suffered head and internal injuries and was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he died the next day.

Driver is charged with attempted murder
A 24-year-old Hauula man was charged with first-degree attempted murder following an East Oahu traffic accident Saturday in which three people were injured.
Justin N. Bush also was charged with three counts of second-degree attempted murder, one count of first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree attempted assault, drunken driving and other charges, police said. He was still being held Monday at the Alapai police station cellblock. Bail was set at $200,000.
The collision at about 10:15 p.m. on Kalanianaole Highway near Kaai Street closed westbound lanes on the highway for nearly five hours. Bush was arrested several blocks away at Waieli Street and Kalanianaole Highway.
Police were investigating reports that two parties involved in the crash had been arguing at another location before the accident.
Paramedics transported a 21-year-old man to a hospital in critical condition. A woman and another man, both reportedly in their 20s, were also taken to the hospital, but their conditions were not disclosed. Speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash, according to police.
