A Kapolei man is in custody on charges of kidnapping and beating his girlfriend, who was dragged several feet behind his car during the incident.
Kalyn Anuhea Rose Gowan, 20, of Waikoloa Place was charged Monday and is being held at Oahu Community Correctional Center in lieu of $100,000 bail. The charges against him include kidnapping, second-degree assault and three counts of abuse of a household member.
Court documents say Gowan abused his live-in girlfriend after accusing her of looking at other men through social media.
According to court documents, the 18-year-old woman told officers she was arguing with Gowan on July 28, while in his vehicle with the license plate "YEAHH," when Gowan started to stab her with his keys from outside the car, piercing her right buttock when she tried to move away.
At about 2:30 a.m. the next day, the couple was at Aeloa Park on Namahoe Street in Kapolei with Gowan’s brother and friends when they began arguing again. The woman asked to borrow Gowan’s phone to call someone to pick her up, court documents said. Gowan grabbed her by the hair and pulled her head back and forth, causing her to hit a metal bar and playground slide. He pushed her down several times and dragged her by the hair to another part of the park where he held her to the ground and pressed a 40-ounce bottle of beer against her forehead. He then poured the beer on her. With beer flowing into her nose and mouth, she said she felt as if she were drowning.
When police arrived, according to documents, Gowan told the woman not to say anything. After police left, he became angry again and pushed the woman into his car and drove away with his brother, who was also in the car. When she cried and told him to let her out, Gowan stopped the car, pulled her from the car by her hair, shoved her to the ground and punched her in the face and arms, chipping a tooth. He then choked her from behind as she was trying to stand.
Gowan told his brother to drive, court documents said, but the woman was trying to get her belongings from the car and was dragged about five feet when her hand got stuck in the door handle. She blacked out. She reported the incident to police the next day at the hospital. Officers found Gowan on Saturday near Kaiau Avenue in Kapolei.
