Fire damages Waimalu Chop Suey
The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating the cause of an early morning fire that caused an estimated $60,000 damage to Waimalu Chop Suey at the Waimalu Shopping Center.
Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said that the fire broke out at about 1:15 a.m. in a storage shed in back of the restaurant on Kauwa Street.
The fire spread into the pantry and kitchen area, where a sprinkler system helped control the flames.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 1:42 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The restaurant is expected to be closed at least through the morning for cleanup and repairs.
