Paramedics helped to deliver a baby boy during rush hour on the H-1 Freeway Wednesday morning near the Kunia Road off-ramp.

Police were escorting her to the hospital in heavy traffic, but the birth was progressing too quickly so paramedics were called to help, said Emergency Medical Services Assistant Chief Wayne Kruse.

The healthy baby boy was born on the side of the freeway at 7:17 a.m.

Mother and son were then transported to a hospital.

It was the second time in recent days EMS and police helped deliver a baby on H-1. A 23-year-old woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl Friday near a Honolulu off-ramp.
