Eichelberger, Hayashi in Champions event
Hawaii’s Dave Eichelberger and Kevin Hayashi will join David Ishii in the inaugural Pacific Links Hawaii Championship.
All three have been given sponsor exemptions for the full-field Champions Tour event that starts Friday at Kapolei.
This will be Hayashi’s first senior start. Eichelberger has won six times on the Champions Tour. Hayashi and Ishii are in the Hawaii Golf Hall of Fame.
Two more golfers will be in after Monday’s qualifier at 8 a.m. at Kapolei.
Hilo women beat Chaminade in soccer
Kristine Pasek and Gina Tumasone each scored two goals as Hawaii-Hilo beat Chaminade 5-1 in a women’s soccer match Saturday at the Saint Louis School field.
Lindsey Poulsen also scored for UHH (2-1) and Brianna Lopiccolo had two assists.
Shayla Hosaka scored for Chaminade (0-2).
» Ali Martin scored two goals and Ashley Shaw had two assists as Seattle Pacific beat Hawaii Pacific 3-1 in a women’s soccer match Saturday in Seattle.
HPU’s Megan Fuller scored on an assist from Liana Gualdarama at 50:18 to tie the match at 1-1.
Martin scored at 61:11 and 79:05 to cap the scoring.
Seattle Pacific improved to 3-1; HPU dropped to 1-3.
BYUH beats Chaminade in men’s soccer
Devin King and James Puertas scored as Brigham Young-Hawaii beat Chaminade 2-1 in a men’s soccer match Saturday at the Saint Louis School field.
Sam Galloway scored on a pass from Edward Mussi at 13:29 for Chaminade (0-2).
King tied it with a penalty kick at 32:40, and Puertas put BYUH (1-0) ahead with a goal at 72:37 after taking a pass from Wil Barker.
HPU tops Alaska Fairbanks in 4 sets
Samantha Rummans had 14 kills, and Haley Doerfler added 11 kills and 10 blocks as Hawaii Pacific beat Alaska Fairbanks 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21 at the Hawaii Invitational on Saturday at St. Andrew’s Priory gym.
Kea Pihanakealoha had 30 assists and Chelsey Buyuan had 20 digs for HPU (5-2).
Ixchelle Oleson had 15 kills for the Nanooks (2-4).
» Denise DeVine had 16 kills and 18 digs as Southern Arkansas beat host Hawaii-Hilo 25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 25-16 in a women’s volleyball match Saturday.
Bria Morgan had 13 kills and four aces, and Olivia Lane added 12 kills for Hilo (2-7). Jolie Au had 23 assists.
Southern Arkansas improved to 4-2.
» Kim Spring had 20 kills and Crystal Powell added 13 to lead Chaminade past Southern Methodist 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-10 in women’s volleyball Saturday night at McCabe Gym.
Daniella Montoya chipped in with 37 assists for the Silverswords (3-4).
Teilissa Tua led the Mustangs (0-3) with 13 kills.
HPU women, BYUH men race to second
The Hawaii Pacific women and the Brigham Young-Hawaii men both finished second at the Big Wave Invitational cross country meet Saturday at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.
In the women’s race, Alaska Anchorage won with 20 points, HPU finished with 58 and BYUH was third with 70. George Fox (122), Hawaii (133), Chaminade (171) and Hawaii-Hilo (180) placed fourth through seventh.
Alaska Anchorage’s Susan Tanui won the 5-kilometer women’s race in 18:09. HPU’s Polina Babkina finished second in 18:16.
In the men’s race, Alaska Anchorage won with 15 points and BYUH finished with 62. George Fox (76) was third, HPU (99) came in fourth and Chaminade (133) placed fifth.
Seawolves runners took the top five spots in the 5K men’s race. Micah Chelimo won in 15:43.
The top local finisher was BYUH’s Kevin Miller, who finished eighth in 16:25.
