Driver who died from Pearl Highlands crash identified

The Medical Examiner’s office has identified the 25-year-old Waipahu man who died after he hit a tree near the Pearl Highlands Shopping Center Sunday as Jordan Kakiva.

Kakiva was taken in critical condition to Queen’s Medical Center where he died Tuesday night.

Police said Kakiva was traveling west on Farrington Highway when his vehicle went off the roadway, hit a tree stump and stopped in a ditch at 4:20 a.m., about 325 feet west of Kamehameha highway.

Speeding and alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash, police said.

Kakiva was Oahu’s 47th traffic death this year, compared to 45 at the same time last year.
