The search advisory committee to help select a new University of Hawaii Manoa athletic director is scheduled to meet today, but it isn’t known when the review of nearly 100 applications will begin.
Diane Chang, spokeswoman for the Manoa Chancellor’s office, which is overseeing the search for a successor to Jim Donovan, said in excess of 95 applications had been received as of Monday.
Chang said the "initial culling will be done by the external search firm, once contract has been approved and executed."
She said the request to hire a mainland search firm is "currently going through the procurement process." No date has been announced for the completion of the process.
Manoa Chancellor Tom Apple has sought approval to spend up to $90,000 of donated funds to engage an as yet unannounced search firm.
Chang said the "committee is still hopeful that the deadline of early November can be met" to name a new AD.
Rockne Freitas has served as acting AD since July 11, when he replaced Donovan.
