Late goal lifts Hawaii Pacific past BYUH
Alejandro Porras scored in the 85th minute to lift the Hawaii Pacific men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii in a Pacific West Conference match Saturday in Kaneohe.
Heimana Chene put the Sea Warriors (6-5-2, 6-2-2) ahead with his goal in the 40th minute off an assist by Truls Henrik. Chad Nahoolewa provided the equalizer for the Seasiders (3-7-1, 2-7-1) in the 63rd minute before Porras scored the game-winner on a pass by Guillem Vinas Marin.
» At Kaneohe, the HPU women scored two late goals in a two-minute span to tie the game, and the Sea Warriors forced a 2-2, two-overtime draw with BYU.
The Seasiders (5-3-2, 7-4-2) got a first-half goal from Mackenzie Kirts before Terryn Soelberg added to the lead by scoring in the 74th minute. But HPU (5-7-2, 4-4-2) got on the board with an own-goal in the 83rd minute, and Breanna Gaddis scored the tying goal in the 85th on a rebound off the crossbar.
BYUH outshot HPU 6-1 in the overtime periods, but neither team scored.
» At Hilo, Analysa Rodriguez and Brianna Lopiccolo each had a goal and an assist in the first half as the Hawaii-Hilo women topped Chaminade 2-1.
Kaitlyn Powell scored the Silverswords’ lone goal on a rebound off the goalie in the 84th minute.
The Vulcans improved to 4-9 overall, 2-8 in PacWest play. Chaminade fell to 0-13, 0-11.
» At Hilo, Sam Galloway converted on a tying penalty kick in the 77th minute and the Chaminade men played to a 1-1, two-overtime draw with Hawaii-Hilo.
Morgan Popp gave the Vulcans (2-7-2, 2-6-2) the early lead when his header off a Philip Sakaba corner kick found the back of the net in the 18th minute.
Hawaii-Hilo goalkeeper Yonha Adrabi had four saves. Tom Higgins had two saves for the Silverswords (2-8-3, 2-6-3), including one in the second overtime period.
