A 69-year-old female hiker who got lost in the Makawao Forest Reserve was rescued by Maui firefighters late Thursday night.

The woman called 911 yesterday at 7:45 p.m. saying she was lost and disoriented.

Rescue crews searching by air were unable to locate the victim. Firefighters then initiated a ground search and eventually located the woman at 11:30 p.m., about two miles from the base of the Kahakapao trail.

The Maui resident reported being fatigued and dehydrated, but otherwise in good health.

No medical attention was required.

DLNR and Piiholo Ranch personnel also assisted with the search.
