Jovan Belcher’s mother pleads with police to send an ambulance while Kasandra Perkins lies dying of gunshot wounds on the floor and the cries of her 3-month-old daughter are heard in the background, according to a 911 audiotape of the shooting’s aftermath.
The tapes, released as police wrapped up their investigation, portray a chaotic scene inside the upscale Independence, Mo., home moments after the Kansas City Chiefs linebacker shot and killed Perkins, 22, his girlfriend and the mother of his baby. He then drove to the team’s practice facility, where he killed himself.
At times Cheryl Shepherd consoled Perkins, whom she refers to as Kasi, called “Cassie” and “Casandra” in the 911 transcripts. Baby Zoey can be heard screaming in the background.
“Please get the ambulance here, please. Oh my God,” Shepherd shouted into the phone. “Oh my God, Cassie. She’s shot!”
A voice can be heard faintly in the background. “He shot me,” Perkins says.
Shepherd seemed to realize Perkins was slipping away, saying, “She’s still breathing, but please hurry. I don’t know how much time she’s got. . . . Casandra stay with me! The ambulance is on its way. You hear me? You hear me? Casandra? Stay with me!”
Vikings put Harvin on IR
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. >> The Vikings have placed ailing wide receiver Percy Harvin on injured reserve.
The move was announced Wednesday, after Harvin missed another practice because of a severely sprained left ankle that has kept him out of the last three games.
Harvin was hurt at Seattle on Nov. 4. He won’t play the rest of the year.
Roethlisberger back at practice
PITTSBURGH >> Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger returned to practice on Wednesday and appears on track to return this weekend against San Diego.
Roethlisberger hasn’t played since spraining his right shoulder and dislocating a rib in a 16-13 overtime victory over Kansas City on Nov. 12.
Sanchez will start for Jets
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. >> Rex Ryan gathered his three quarterbacks and told them he had made up his mind.
He’s sticking with Mark Sanchez.
The Jets coach spent two days weighing his options after benching Sanchez last Sunday against Arizona.
“I have to get this decision right,” Ryan said, “and I believe I have.”
So, it will be Sanchez and not Greg McElroy or Tim Tebow on Sunday when the Jets take on the Jaguars in Jacksonville.
