UH women’s hoops team wins again on road

The Hawaii women’s basketball team dug itself out of an early hole and improved to 2-0 on its three-game road trip with a 61-54 win at Long Beach State today.

UH kept pace with Cal Poly for second place in the Big West with the victory, and moved within a game of league leader Pacific. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 4-2 on the road in BWC play.

Point guard Monica DeAngelis hit the go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minutes. Junior wing Shawna Kuehu led the Rainbow Wahine (11-10, 7-3 BWC) with 18 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

DeAngelis added 13 points and Long Beach native Destiny King scored 12 before her hometown crowd.

UH committed nine turnovers in the first 10 minutes and trailed 12-0. A 16-2 run got the Wahine the lead at 18-16 and they went on to take a 26-22 halftime lead behind 13 first-half points by Kuehu.

UH continues road play at UC Irvine on Saturday.
