It appears former Texas-El Paso assistant coach Aaron Price will be joining the Hawaii football program.
Price was with the Miners for nine years, the past five as offensive coordinator. His duties included play-calling and coaching the quarterbacks and special teams.
Price’s tenure at UTEP ended after the 2012 season when his father, Mike Price, retired as the Miners’ head coach.
Mike Price completed a 31-year coaching career that included two Rose Bowl appearances as Washington State’s head coach.
Mike Price and UH coach Norm Chow are close friends. They run pro-set offenses that have similar schemes.
Aaron Price was a kicker at Washington State. He played briefly in the Canadian Football League and World League before pursuing a coaching career.
He was a graduate assistant at Washington State for two years.
He then coached the quarterbacks and kickers at Idaho State, the special teams at Cal Poly and quarterbacks and kickers at Missouri Western State.
Price coached under his father the past 14 seasons. He mentored UTEP quarterback Trevor Vittatoe, who finished as the Miners’ career leader in passing yards and total offense.
Chow, in his second year at UH, declined to comment.
In December, Tommy Lee retired as a UH assistant coach.
Two weeks ago, Chris Naeole joined the Warriors as an assistant coach. Chow has yet to announce Naeole’s duties, only saying there will be an "adjustment" to the coaching staff.
Naeole is a Kahuku High graduate who played 11 seasons in the NFL. He was an assistant at ‘Iolani School before joining the Warriors.
