Shoreline search to continue for missing Kauai swimmer
Kauai County rescuers will continue a shoreline search Saturday for a 55-year-old swimmer who was reported missing in waters off Ninini Beach.
Officials ended a third day of searching by land, sea and air Friday without a sign of the Kilauea man.
He has been identified as Scott Akina.
Kauai police, Ocean Safety Bureau lifeguards and Fire Department rescue specialists plan to continue their shoreline search through Saturday morning, focusing on the area surrounding Kalapaki Bay and Nawiliwili Harbor.
If they need help, they will call on the state Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Fire Department helicopter.
