Glenn Frey, a founding member of the Eagles and a successful solo artist with hits that include "The Heat Is On," "You Belong to the City" and "Smuggler’s Blues," will perform a single show in Hawaii, May 4 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.
Frey wrote and sang lead on many of the Eagles’ biggest hits during the group’s long run as rock superstars in the 1970s. The Eagles brought their "Hotel California" tour to Blaisdell Arena in 1976 and, after a 1980 breakup and reuniting in 1994, they played Aloha Stadium in 1995. The band returned to Hawaii in 2005 for three shows at the arena.
For his most recent album, "After Hours," released in May, Frey switched genres to sing classic pop standards such as "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons" and "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66" and put a big-band spin on rock-era material.
For his Maui show at the MACC’s Yokouchi Pavilion/ A&B Amphitheater, Frey will be backed by a full band. Tickets, priced at $55 to $129, will go on sale at 10 a.m. March 30; MACC members will be able to buy tickets beginning 10 a.m. Saturday.
