Retired Navy Adm. Thomas Fargo, former head of the U.S. Pacific Command in Honolulu, is one of four Naval Academy graduates recently honored for lifelong achievement with the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Award.
The award was presented March 22 at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
Fargo, a 1970 Annapolis graduate, served as commander-in-chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet from 1999 to 2002 and then was elevated to become commander of the U.S. Pacific Command from 2002 to 2005, when he retired.
He was awarded the Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale award for Inspirational Leadership.
He is currently serving on the Naval Academy Foundation board of directors and is also the chairman of Huntington Ingalls Industries, which builds ships and submarines for the Navy and Coast Guard.
