A haze in the air today may be a sign of things to come early next week when Kona winds begin blowing humid and voggy air up from the south.

Today’s voggy conditions are from Kona winds earlier in the week that blew the volcanic emissions from Hawaii island volcanos north of the islands.

The trade winds from the northeast are blowing the haze over Oahu, forecasters said.

Light trade winds are likely to continue through the weekend. But a weather system northeast of the state is forecast to stall and change the wind direction over the islands starting late Sunday or Monday.

Forecasters say we can expect mostly dry conditions in Honolulu with the chance of isolated windward and mauka showers through the weekend.

Winds will shift and skies may become hazy on Monday. There will also be a chance of afternoon showers because of daytime heating.

The high surf warning for the north and west shores Oahu, Kauai, Molokai and Niihau continues until 6 a.m. Saturday, when it will likely drop to an advisory.

Another swell is expected on Monday and could bring more advisory-level surf to north shores.
