Hawaiian Springs expands on mainland
Hawaiian Springs, a Hawaii island company that sells bottled water, said Monday it has expanded its product to 60 mainland stores, increasing distribution to more than 3,500 stores nationwide.
The Keaau company said it sold 52 percent more cases of Hawaiian Springs Natural Artesian Water in the U.S. in 2012 compared with the previous year. The bottled water is now available in 60 BevMo! locations throughout California and Washington, as well as The Fresh Market locations in 24 states.
The company also increased its presence in Southern California’s independent markets and convenience stores with the addition of distribution partners John Lenore & Co., Trent Beverage Co. and Alliance Beverage Partners.
Bankoh social media among top 30 in U.S.
Social media activities by Bank of Hawaii got the institution ranked among the top 30 in the U.S. and within the top 100 worldwide. The "Retail Banking Social Media Power 100" list places Bankoh at No. 29 in the U.S. and No. 67 in the world, based on its level of social media engagement.
The Financial Brand and Social Media Explorer created the ranking, evaluating financial institutions’ level of social media engagement including "likes" on Facebook, the highest Facebook engagement rate; most Twitter followers, most Tweets sent and most Twitter accounts followed; the most YouTube video views and the most YouTube subscribers.
Bank of Hawaii was the only Hawaii financial institution included in the ranking, found online at socialmedia.thefinancialbrand.com.
Central Pacific celebrates branch opening
Central Pacific Bank marked the grand opening of its Kapiolani branch Monday.
Weeklong festivities continue through Friday and will include daily prize drawings, refreshments, special product offers and a grand-prize drawing for a trip for two to Las Vegas.
The branch at 1538 Kapiolani Blvd. is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Local experts to discuss Asia connections
Local bankers, attorneys and private equity experts will be among those speaking at a panel discussion April 25 on ways Hawaii can boost its financial and business connections with Asia.
"We have great opportunities to connect with Asia’s financial markets — for reciprocal investments, for currency, equities and real estate markets; for banking, trading, import-export and professional exchanges; and for ventures, partnerships, jobs and careers, both public and private," according to a statement from the event’s organizers, the Hawaii Venture Capital Association and ThinkTech Hawaii.
Among those scheduled to speak are Betty Brow, executive vice president for international banking at Bank of Hawaii; attorneys David Day and Roger Epstein; Steven Connell of Interlaced Investment Advisors; and Brad Punu of Urban Capital of America.

Shakacon event to feature Walmart exec
The fifth annual Shakacon conference on information technology security will feature keynote speaker Rob Goldberg, vice president of Global Information Technology and eCommerce Audit for Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
Goldberg leads global efforts identifying and evaluating risks and controls within Walmart’s global IT, eCommerce and related business practices.
Other speakers at the June 25-28 event at Blaisdell Center include Nikita Tarakanov, an independent information security researcher; Colin Ames, Attack Research founding partner and security researcher; insurance and financial services data science leader Robert McPherson; and Ryan Talabis, manager at Secure DNA and co-author of "Information Security Risk Assessment Toolkit: Practical Assessments Through Data Collection and Data Analysis."
