Touring Asia through noodles
There will be noodles, noodles and more noodles at Walter Rhee’s Asian cooking class Friday.
Learn to prepare Chinese look fun, Japanese udon, Korean kim chee noodles, pad Thai and Vietnamese mi tom cua at the "Quick & Easy Asian Noodles in 19 Minutes or Less" course.
The class runs 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lemongrass Café, 83 N. King St. Fee is $60. Reservations required; call 521-7041 or email laurien@pacificgatewaycenter.org.

Kailua town is revving up for its 21st I Love Kailua event, and among the festivities is A Taste of Kailua, featuring more than 20 food venues.
Among the eateries participating are Agnes’ Portuguese Bake Shop, Bob’s Pizzeria, Cinnamon’s Restaurant, Crepes No Ka ‘Oi, Los Garcia’s Mexican Food, Pinky’s Bar & Grill and Tat’s Shaved Ice.

Local chefs win national honors
Kapiolani Community College culinary arts professor Frank Leake and Jean Hull, owner of Hospitality Consulting by Jean, were honored with Cutting Edge awards from the American Culinary Federation earlier this month at the 2013 Western Regional Conference in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
The award recognizes leadership and service to the culinary profession.
Leake and Hull were among five chefs honored. The other awardees hail from Guam, Oregon and Washington.
Resort hosts wine spectacle
Explore great labels and rare vintages with master sommeliers Roberto Viernes and Chuck Furuya at the Four Seasons Resort Maui’s Vintage Wine Weekend, May 24 to 26.
The event will feature vintners Gary Burke of Costa de Oro, Steve Clifton of Brewer Clifton, Donald Patz of Patz & Hall, Dan Kosta of Kosta Browne, Laurent Martelet from Domaine de Cherisey and Van Williamson of Witching Stick Wines.
Events include a VIP Private Cellar ($195) in which attendees bring their favorite bottles of burgundy or pinot noir to share; wine dinners ($115); and a gala featuring 40 exclusive wines ($165).
