Deannalynn Tafiti threw a three-hitter with six strikeouts as top-seeded Waimea defeated Aiea 6-2 in a Division II quarterfinal matchup of the DataHouse/HHSAA Softball State Championships on Wednesday at Maui High School’s Patsy Mink Field.
Catcher Gaylan Matagiese drove in four runs on two triples as the Menehunes advanced to today’s 7 p.m. semifinal against St. Francis.
Na Alii fell into a 1 p.m. fifth-place semifinal vs. Molokai.

Nanakuli pounded out 14 hits, with Kawaiaea going 3-for-5. Paulo-Meyer and Chyanne Koko each went 2-for-3.
Nanakuli faces Kauai in a 5 p.m. semifinal, and Kohala takes on Kamehameha-Hawaii in a 3 p.m. fifth-place semifinal.

Courtney Laamea threw five innings in relief, and teammates Kyana Hirokane and Karlyee Malapit each drove in two runs as the Red Raiders upset the third-seeded Warriors.
Kauai trailed 4-3 before scoring five runs in the top of the third for an 8-4 lead.
The Red Raiders then held off the Warriors, who scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull to 8-7.
