Maui police are looking for two men who allegedly attacked a Kahului man on a street in Wailuku, striking him on the head with a rock and shooting the rear window of his car with a shotgun.
The attack occurred after 9 a.m. Saturday at North Market Street and Piihana Road. Police have opened an attempted-murder investigation.
The man, 52, told police that he drove a 36-year-old woman to Piihana housing, where two men got out of a black truck and began yelling at him.
He drove down Piihana Road and into Piihana Farms to get away but was followed by the two men, who blocked his vehicle. The woman then left the car and got into the truck with the assailants.
They then left the truck and approached the victim’s car, police said.
One of them grabbed a large rock and smashed the side window of the man’s car, hitting him on the head, police said. The second suspect used a shotgun and shot out the victim’s rear windows.
The victim dashed home, and a relative took him to the hospital. He was treated for a 6-inch cut on the left side of his forehead and was released from the hospital.
The woman apparently went off with the two men, then later turned up at Maui Memorial Medical Center, where she was treated for a drug overdose, police said. She remained in guarded condition.
She told police the two men stole her bag. No kidnapping case has been opened.
