Training to add to jet noise from air base
Windward residents can expect more jet noise through the rest of the month with the arrival today of a dozen F/A-18 Hornets from Texas for training, the Marine Corps said.
The jets — the same type flown by the Blue Angels, shown at left — will be temporarily based at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay while supporting pre-deployment training on Hawaii island.
The 12 jets are scheduled to leave in early August. Residents can anticipate increased aircraft activity due to day and night operations, which are scheduled to end at 11 p.m. daily, the Marine Corps said.
The jets, pilots and crews are from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 112 in Fort Worth. The aircraft will support Marines of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, and 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, during Exercise Lava Viper at Pohakuloa Training Area.

Pet euthanized following attack by another dog
Kauai police are investigating a German shepherd’s attack last week on a cocker spaniel that had to be euthanized due to its injuries.
A Kauai County news release said Monday that the cocker spaniel’s owner reported that the shepherd, a neighbor’s dog, entered the Moloaa home at about 4 p.m. July 2 and attacked the spaniel, named Coco Chanel.
Coco’s owner picked her up to protect her, but Coco bit her on the face. After the attack, Coco was euthanized, and her owner was taken to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.
