The Honolulu Police Department’s main station at Alapai and Beretania streets was given the “all clear” and reopened about 2:40 p.m. after an earlier report of a suspicious package found in one of the basement levels of the building.

A hazardous materials crew of the Honolulu Fire Department was called to the scene around 1:20 p.m., HFD spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said.

Various tests determined the package, which was located in the HPD evidence room, was not a threat, Seelig said.

Employees inside the building were not evacuated during that hour but patrol officers and the public were instructed not to enter.
