Alleged robber set for court appearance
Hawaii County authorities charged a 37-year-old Honomu man Friday in connection with two attempted robberies in Hilo on Wednesday.
Police said Kris Villasista allegedly tried to rob a gas station and a recycling center.
Villasista was charged Friday with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and two counts of attempted robbery.
His bail was set at $110,000.
He is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Monday.
Human remains discovered on Mauna Kea
Hawaii County police initiated a coroner’s inquest case Friday after human remains were found on Mauna Kea.
On Tuesday police received a report of human remains discovered at a remote location at the 12,000-foot elevation of Mauna Kea. On Friday police conducted a check of the area with the assistance of officers from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and a ranger from the Office of Mauna Kea Management and found the remains.
Police nab suspect in assault on boy
A 35-year-old Kalihi man was arrested Thursday for allegedly attacking and hitting a 14-year-old boy with fists and a stick.
Police said the suspect was arguing with the youth at about 1 p.m. Thursday when he allegedly hit the boy on his head and face several times with his fist. The suspect then grabbed a stick and allegedly hit the boy several more times on his body, arms and legs.
The police report did not say whether the victim had to be treated for his injuries. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault at his home on Mao Lane near Farrington High School.
Man caught digging into fridge is arrested
Police arrested a 27-year-old man Thursday for allegedly rifling through a refrigerator in a 78-year-old man’s Hawaii Kai garage.
The resident said he saw an unknown man searching through his refrigerator at 9:30 a.m. When the resident approached him, the suspect told him not to call police and fled.
Police located the man at his home and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree burglary.
