6 Hawaii golfers seek LPGA player cards
Six Hawaii golfers are on the verge of advancing heading into today’s final round of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament First Stage in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Former Rainbow Corie Hou rallied back into red numbers Thursday, firing a third-round 69 to jump into 11th place at 2-under-par 214.
State Stroke Play champ Nicole Sakamoto improved by a shot for the third straight day, firing an even-par 72 to move into a share of 38th at 219, with Hilo’s Britney Yada, who shot 71.
Punahou graduate Anna Jang (73) is another shot back. Kimberly Kim, who played on the tour in 2011, also rallied with a 70 to get to 221 and move into the top 62.
Wailuku’s Shayna Miyajima, the 2006 state high school champ, dropped into a tie for 90th at 75—223. Pearl City’s Mari Chun shot her best round of the week — 76 — but is 193rd, at 235.
The top 100 today, out of 241 golfers, advance to Stage II next month in Florida.
