Christenson leads U.S. to zonal title
Micah Christenson was named best server and best setter in his international debut, helping the U.S. national men’s volleyball team win the NORCECA Continental Championship on Saturday. Team USA beat host Canada 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 in Langley, British Columbia, to win its first zonal title since 2007.
The U.S. men finished the tournament 4-0 and qualified for the FIVB Grand Champions Cup in November in Japan.
The U.S. put three players on the all-tourney team — hitters Matt Anderson, the MVP, and Reid Priddy, and Christenson at setter. Anderson led all attackers with 17 points. Hawaii’s Erik Shoji collected 10 digs and Christenson was in on two blocks. Kauai’s Futi Tavana was also on the team.
