Homeless man charged in beating death
Police charged a 58-year-old homeless man Friday in the beating death of a 49-year-old man earlier this month at Aala Park.
According to police, Ronald Page assaulted the victim, identified as Lynn Riley, at about 4:25 p.m. Oct. 1 in the downtown park. Riley, who was also homeless, was taken by paramedics to an area hospital, where he later died.
The Medical Examiner’s Office said Riley died of bleeding within the skull due to blunt force injury from the assault.
Police arrested Page on Thursday at Tripler Army Medical Center.
He was charged with second-degree murder and is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
$15K bail set for man charged in forgery
Police have charged a 30-year-old man who allegedly attempted to cash a stolen check on Wednesday.
Tyson Summers, who does not have a local address, was arrested while trying to cash the check at an Ala Moana check-cashing service.
Summers was charged Friday with second-degree forgery, unauthorized possession of confidential personal information and third-degree identity theft. His bail was set at $15,000.
Vandalized car leads to arrest of man, 25
Police have arrested a 25-year-old man who was allegedly caught in the act of damaging another man’s vehicle in Waialua.
The victim told police he caught the suspect damaging the inside of his vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, but the suspect fled.
Police were called and officers located and arrested the suspect nearby on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
Man suspected of trafficking meth in custody
A 36-year-old Kona man remains in custody after being charged with possession of methamphetamine and a loaded gun.
Danny Campogan was charged with promoting a dangerous drug, meth trafficking, possessing drug paraphernalia and 18 firearms related offenses, including being a felon in possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $593,000.
Campogan was arrested Wednesday in Kailua-Kona. Police said they found 15.7 grams of a crystalline substance packaged in amounts consistent with meth distribution, a loaded handgun and several rounds of unspent ammunition when they searched Campogan’s car.
Also arrested with Campogan was a 27-year-old woman who was later released, pending further investigation.
