Kan and Keala lead rising Missouri
Missouri freshman Carly Kan had her third double-double in the past four matches, finishing with 13 kills and 12 digs in a four-set upset of then-No. 2 Florida on Sunday at the Hearnes Center.
Kan, a 2013 Punahou alumna and Star-Advertiser player of the year last year, hit .379 with three aces, two assists and two block assists in front of the fifth-largest home crowd (4,202) in Missouri history.
Teammate Loxley Keala, a 2013 ‘Iolani alumna, added five digs, two assists and an ace for the Tigers, who are one of two undefeated teams in NCAA Division I at 23-0.
For the second straight week, the Tigers jumped seven spots in the AVCA Top 25 poll.
Their No. 11 ranking is the highest at Missouri since they opened the 2005 season No. 8.

The Longhorns, who have won nine in a row, jumped to No. 1 in the poll for the first time since the preseason.

USD returned to the top 10, moving up two spots to No. 9.
Fong records consecutive shutouts
Lewis & Clark junior Geena Fong had the perfect weekend.
The Pioneers’ starting goalkeeper recorded back-to-back shutouts in 1-0 victories over George Fox on Saturday and Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday.
Fong (Maryknoll ’11) made six saves and shut out the Bruins for 108 minutes before her team scored the winning goal in the second overtime period.
She made seven saves against the Boxers and has not allowed a goal in the last 225 minutes.
Fong is 9-5-1 in goal this season.
Miller and Fruean earn honors
Cornell (Iowa) College senior linebacker Geoffrey Miller, a 2010 Punahou graduate, was named the Midwest Conference defensive performer of the week on Monday.
Miller had 14 tackles in a 45-14 victory over Knox, helping the Rams improve to 4-1 in conference play.
He collected three tackles for loss and a sack and forced a fumble in the win.
Miller ranks second in the conference in tackles per game, averaging 11.0.
A week earlier, St. Francis (Pa.) senior Asalemo Fruean, a 2009 Waipahu alumnus, was named the Northeast Conference defensive player of the week.
Fruean had eight tackles and two sacks in a
28-10 win over Monmouth, with four of his tackles resulting in a loss.
