There shouldn’t be any tricks to this Hawaii starting lineup.
The first five of the Rainbow Warriors has been clear for weeks now, and that group will likely get the first crack against Brigham Young-Hawaii in a Halloween night exhibition at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Guards Keith Shamburger, Garrett Nevels and Brandon Spearman and forwards Isaac Fotu and Christian Standhardinger have played together almost exclusively since full practices began Sept. 30.
"We’re right on top, we’re right where we want to be for the first game of the season," said Standhardinger, a senior team captain and returning All-Big West Conference first-team forward. "The great thing about us is everybody can score, so the defenders will not be able to sink off of somebody or play more help-side."

BYUH coach Ken Wagner is confident in his group from the North Shore, but he sees the potential for something special in the 2013-14 edition of the ‘Bows.
"They may not be as big as they’ve been in the past, but shooting-wise and quickness-wise, I think they’re a lot better," Wagner said. "I think they’ll do better than sixth in their (Big West) conference they were picked. I just think they are better than that."
Whatever happens tonight between the ‘Bows and Seasiders will not officially count, allowing UH coach Gib Arnold a chance to give non-established players a chance to shine, too. That could be especially meaningful for players like Aaron Valdes, Mike Thomas and Brandon Jawato — those on the fringe of the projected rotation — to prove themselves with the regular-season opener vs. Tennessee State just over a week away on Nov. 8.
"I count on playing those guys quite a bit (tonight)," Arnold said. "In an exhibition, you want to see everybody and you want to see some of the new guys play in different situations. I pretty much know what I’m going to expect out of Isaac, I know what I’m going to get out of Christian, Davis (Rozitis), Spearman. So maybe those guys’ minutes are less than they would be in a regular-season game.
"Everybody’s going to play, so everybody needs to go hard."
BYUH is a couple of years removed (and has entirely new personnel) from its trip to the Division II national championship game in 2011, but Wagner’s teams continue to compete. The Seasiders return two sharpshooters in Pablo Coro and BJ Ford, both of whom shot over 40 percent on 3-pointers in 2012-13, and boast some quality big men.
Both teams will try to get their players used to new NCAA rules designed to generate more freedom for offenses.
Hand-checking on the body of the ball-handler will be called tighter and arm bars into the back of an offensive player are no longer allowed. It’s tougher to earn a charge call, too, with the benefit of the doubt going to the offensive player — if he has left his feet to pass or shoot and a defensive player slides in to take the charge but is not set, it will be a blocking call.
"We just gotta play through it. Coach Gib tells us every day, we just gotta adapt," Spearman said.
The ‘Bows will be without Negus Webster-Chan, who is redshirting, Jack Hackman, who is sick, and Caleb Dressler, who is out for the season with a back injury. The other 14 should see the court.
