Rob Shikina / rshikina@staradvertiser.com The Koko Head Shooting Complex is closed this weekend as police investigate a fire that came within a few yards of the rifle range pavilion.

The city is shutting down its rifle range at Koko Head to repair protective berms behind targets, following two reports of stray bullets.

The ranges at the Koko Head Shooting Complex will remain open to other weapons, including pistol, archery, skeet, and trap shooting.

Mayor Kirk Caldwell said Friday that the city wants to repair the rifle range berm behind the targets.

The berm which has eroded over the years absorbs bullets.

No injuries have been reported, and only property damage has occurred, the city said.
