Xerox Hawaii donated $15,000 to Help, Understanding & Group Support through the company’s charitable division, Xerox Foundation.
HUGS provides free programs and services designed to improve the quality of life for families as they deal with the emotional and financial hardships of caring for a seriously ill child.
The money from Xerox Hawaii will support the following programs: Sib Camp, which provides a supportive environment for siblings; the medical transportation fund, in which eligible families are provided with an annual stipend to help cover airfare for a parent or family members to travel with their ill child for treatment; and a bereavement fund for funeral costs.
In addition to providing funds to nonprofits, Xerox Hawaii supports organizations through its companywide employee volunteer initiative called the Xerox Community Involvement Program, in which employees identify causes in their local communities and receive funding for identified initiatives.In addition to supporting HUGS, Xerox Hawaii has also provided grants and volunteer services to Palama Settlement, Institute for Human Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Easter Seals Hawaii and Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii.
The Turtle Bay Foundation has awarded $50,000 in grants and scholarships to 37 nonprofit organizations and college-bound students on the North Shore.
The foundation was established last year in support of nonprofit groups and college students from Waialua to Kaaawa. All of this year’s recipients either live on the North Shore or in Koolauloa or serve the needs of others living in these communities, a requirement for receiving an award, the foundation said in a press release.
"We applaud these nonprofits for their service in making the North Shore a better place to live, and these students for their commitment to academic achievement," said Danna Holck, a foundation board member, and vice president and general manager of Turtle Bay Resort. "Turtle Bay takes pride in its responsibility and long-standing record of giving back to the North Shore community."
