Homeless man’s death ruled homicide
The city Medical Examiner’s Office said Thursday that the 37-year-old homeless man who was killed in a stairwell in Kailua two weeks ago died of multiple stab wounds.
The victim was identified as Scott MacMillan by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Friends said MacMillan was a former chef at Lucy’s Grill & Bar and Island Fusion Catering. The Medical Examiner’s Office classified the death as a homicide.
Homicide detectives have opened a second-degree murder investigation into the incident, which occurred at 11:35 p.m. Jan. 13 on Uluniu Street.
A suspect is described as a slim Caucasian man, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall with dark curly hair.
Man killed by tree branch ID’d as visitor
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday identified the 55-year-old Japanese visitor who died Wednesday at Leilehua Golf Course after being hit on the head by a tree branch as Shigeru Iwamoto.
An autopsy will be done on Iwamoto, of Katata, Japan, to determine cause of death. The incident occurred at 11:45 a.m. in Wahiawa while the man was golfing on the first tee. Paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he died.
Meetings focus on courthouse
The Kauai Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking comments on the restoration and future use of the Hanalei Courthouse.
A meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Hale Halawai ‘Ohana ‘o Hanalei Community Center, 5-5299 Kuhio Highway.

The department plans to host follow-up meetings on the topic Feb. 25 and March 18. Both meetings will be held at 6 p.m. at Hale Halawai ‘Ohana ‘o Hanalei.

Arakawa to give annual address
Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa will give his 2014 State of the County address at 5 p.m. Feb. 5 in the McCoy Studio Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. but inside seating is limited. Overflow seating with live viewing on a television monitor will be available in the outdoor courtyard.
Light refreshments will be served following the event.
