Suppa leads in state stroke play
Honolulu’s Kyle Suppa shot a 4-under 68 on Friday to assume the lead in the Hawaii State Amateur and Senior Amateur Stroke-Play Championship at Pearl Country Club.
Suppa’s two-round total of 6-under 138 is one shot better than first-round leader Andrew Chin, who shot a 2-under 70 on Friday. Raymond Tendo, of Makawao, leads the Senior Division at 2-under 142.
The third round starts at 11:20 a.m. Saturday.
Hawaii Hilo beats Cal Baptist in baseball
Keenan Nishioka had three hits and drove in two runs and Samuel Kim and Kyle Watase also drove in two runs as Hawaii Hilo (6-7, 5-4 PacWest) routed Cal Baptist (17-6, 3-6) 11-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
UH women dominate in tennis
The University of Hawaii women’s tennis team (7-7) won its fifth match in a row, beating Grand Canyon (6-5) by a 6-1 score on Friday at the UH Tennis Complex.
UH’s No. 1 duo of Xenia Suworowa and Paulina Petriskova won the doubles, breaking a 1-1 deadlock. UH would dominate in singles.
