E.K. Fernandez Shows set up amusement rides and games Monday off Kalanianaole Highway between Hawaii Kai Drive and Keahole Street for a carnival this weekend and next.
Strong wind prompted organizers of the Hawaii Kai Community Carnival to open at 4 p.m. Sunday, rather than noon as previously planned, Donna Smith, vice president of E.K. Fernandez Shows, said.
A high wind warning remains in effect in the isles until 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Strong northeasterly winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected to affect the entire state through late Sunday afternoon — accelerating down leeward mountain slopes, over ridges and through mountain passes to produce powerful gusts of up to 50 mph, the agency said.
The carnival closed early on Saturday at 4 p.m. because gusts of 50 to 55 mph were expected around 6 p.m.
