Prosecutors are not pursuing charges against a 29-year-old Aiea man who allegedly drove into a crowd of people in Chinatown early Saturday morning, the Honolulu Prosecutor’s Office said Sunday. 

The Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment on the reason.

Police said two people, a 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, sustained non-life threatening injuries during the 1:34 a.m. incident.

Nearby workers said Saturday the incident began with a fight in the parking lot at the corner of Nuuanu Avenue and Beretania Street. Remnants of the clash remained Saturday afternoon, including two panels of a wooden fence that were knocked over and tire tracks cutting across a dirt median, leading toward Nuuanu.

Witnesses identified the Aiea man as the driver, and he was arrested on Pauahi Street around 2:12 a.m. on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, and fleeing the scene of a crash, according to police records.
