Lifeguards rescued or assisted about 130 people on Oahu’s south shore beaches Saturday as advisory-level surf of 4 to 8 feet came ashore.

Three people were washed off a ledge at China Walls in the Portlock area at about 4 p.m., a spokeswoman for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department said.

Two people were able to climb out of the ocean, but a man in his 20s needed help from lifeguards. He suffered serious cuts to his head and arm and multiple abrasions, said Shayne Enright, the Emergency Services Department spokeswoman.

Paramedics treated him and took him to the hospital in serious condition.

Lifeguards also warned about 978 people about the potentially dangerous conditions.

The National Weather Service extended a high surf advisory for south shores of Oahu, Kauai County, Maui County, and south and east shores of the Big Island until noon Sunday.

The surf is expected to remain at moderate heights through Tuesday.

Surf is expected to be 3 to 7 feet on south shores Sunday.

West shores saw 3 to 5 foot surf Saturday, lowering to 2 to 4 feet Sunday.

East shores were 2 to 4 feet, diminishing to 1 to 3 feet Sunday.

North shores had 2 to 3 foot surf, lowering to 2 feet or less Sunday.
