UH’s Nguyen draws Texas’ Addison
Hawaii freshman Cindy Nguyen will face Texas’ Breaunna Addison in the first round of the NCAA women’s tennis championships on Wednesday in Athens, Ga.
The draw for the 64-player singles tournament was released on Tuesday. Nguyen and Addison are scheduled to meet at 7 a.m.
Nguyen (22-4) earned an automatic bid as the Big West’s highest-ranked player at No. 123 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
Addison (27-10) is the Big 12’s automatic qualifier at No. 12. The sophomore was voted the Big 12 player of the year.
UH Hilo golfers tied for 13th at nationals
The Hawaii Hilo men’s golf team is tied for 13th place after Tuesday’s second round of the NCAA Division II golf championships in Allendale, Mich.
Hilo’s Dalen Yamauchi shot a 1-over 72 to move into a tie for 15th at 6-over 148. The Vulcans’ team total of 611 is 29 strokes behind leader Nova Southeastern.
