UH soccer camps offered in coming weeks
The Hawaii soccer team is offering two separate camps this summer.
The first is a Summer Soccer Youth & Intermediate camp, being offered June 9-12 and July 14-17. Players ages 5-7 and 6-14 will be instructed in basic skills or advanced tactics, respectively.
The second is the Summer College Identification Camp, running July 14-16, catered to high school players interested in playing at the next level.
The youth and intermediate camp costs $150 and the college camp costs $120. For more information and registration forms, visit hawaiiathletics.com.
Mililani’s Kim wins Gatorade softball honor
Mililani sophomore Aubree Kim was named the Gatorade Hawaii Softball Player of the Year on Thursday.
Kim, a right-handed pitcher, is the first Mililani player to win the award. She went 14-1 with a 1.12 earned-run average and 143 strikeouts in 81 innings while helping the Trojans capture the Division I state championship this spring.
Kim, also a 4.0 student, was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Division I state tournament after winning all three of her starts. She threw a no-hitter against Maryknoll and struck out 28 over 21 innings in the tournament.
UH holding steady at 11th in sailing finals
Two University of Hawaii pairs posted first-place finishes and the Rainbows were 11th overall after the opening day of the finals of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Gill Coed National Championship on Thursday in St. Mary’s City, Md.
The championship concludes Friday, and UH enters the final day of racing on the St. Mary’s River with 190 points. Yale leads the 18-team regatta with 87 points.
UH qualified for the finals by placing fifth in its semifinal bracket, and improved weather conditions allowed 19 races to be run on Thursday. UH’s Adam Pokras and Ana-Melissa Kea won the eighth race of the day and are eighth in the A Division with 80 points. Chuck Eaton and Katrina Berry won their 10th and final race of the day. UH is 12th in the B Division with 110 points.
