Troubled helicopter diverts to Lanai
A helicopter made an emergency landing on Lanai Friday night after experiencing engine problems flying from Kona to Honolulu.
The EC-135 helicopter diverted to Lanai and landed without incident about 6:30 p.m., said Ian Gregor, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.
The aircraft is registered to Utah-based air medical transport company Guardian Flight, according to FAA records.
But an employee who answered the company’s emergency line said the company does not operate flights in Hawaii and only flies planes in Alaska.
