The Friends of Honolulu Botanical Gardens is introducing monthly tours of plant nurseries and other places of interest to garden lovers.
The first tour begins at 9 a.m. Sunday and includes a stop at Frankie’s Nursery in Waimanalo, where owner Frankie Sekiya will guide participants around his tropical fruit orchard. Fruit and plants will be available for purchase.
At 10:30 a.m., the group will head to Ti’s Unlimited in Waimanalo to explore a ti collection along with other plants such as water lilies and palms. The proper care, propagation and hybridizing of ti are among the topics that will be discussed.
"We are trying to get people familiar with the various botanical gardens around the island," said Emmy Seymour, volunteer chair for botanical garden. "We want to bring people who enjoy gardening together, and hopefully, they get to visit some new places."
Cost is $20; $15 for members. Call 537-1708 for reservations.
