San Francisco State boots HPU
San Francisco State jumped on Hawaii Pacific early, scoring in the fourth minute, en route to a 2-1 victory over the Sharks in a women’s soccer match in San Francisco on Monday. The Gators led 2-0 before freshman Sara Romo scored in the 62nd minute for the Sharks (3-1-1). San Francisco State is 5-1.
First goal an unforgettable one for Orchard
Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Kate Orchard was named the conference’s freshman of the week in women’s soccer.
Orchard, of Salt Lake City, made her first goal a memorable one, converting the game-winner in overtime to lift the Seasiders over over Palm Beach Atlantic 3-2 at the Lumberjack Classic. She scored four minutes into overtime after stealing the ball and sending her shot into the net from 9 yards out.

BYUH gets revenge vs. HPU in volleyball
It took a while, but the then-No. 6-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s volleyball team exacted some revenge against Hawaii Pacific in a Pacific West Conference match at St. Andrew’s Priory on Saturday.
The Seasiders avenged their only regular-season loss from 2013 with a 25-12, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12 victory. Shih Ting Chen had 22 kills, 14 digs and five blocks and BYUH capitalized on three HPU errors late in the fifth set to pull out the victory.
Kasey Thompson had 18 kills and Pomai Reeca had 13 kills and 10 digs for HPU.
BYUH moved up two spots to No. 4 in the AVCA Coaches Division II Top 25 on Monday. The Seasiders, 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, are in a five-way tie for first in the PacWest. Cal Baptist, Hawaii Hilo, Dixie State and Point Loma also are 2-0. HPU is 2-6, 0-2.
